Services
The services we provide are best defined by our experience and commitment to our clients, and not by where our office is located or by other such traditional factors. We handle complex civil business disputes arising in Louisiana, and our primary area of practice is Louisiana construction law.
Many of the matters we handle involve claims on highways, roads, and bridges, against the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, or against municipal or parochial entities. The venue for most matters against Louisiana DOTD, Division of Administration, or other Louisiana state agencies is in the 19th Judicial District Court, Parish of East Baton Rouge, regardless of where the construction project may be located. Accordingly, we maintain an office convenient to Baton Rouge, but away from the distraction of city life, in the town of Jackson, Louisiana, a small rural community just north of Baton Rouge. Traffic is rarely a problem in the Felicianas, and there is never a problem with parking.
However, our practice remains statewide. We have had significant experience with projects and disputes throughout the state including cases in each of the five appellate circuits in Louisiana and the Louisiana Supreme Court. We also practice in all federal district courts in Louisiana and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. Our range of experience includes matters tried by an arbitrator or arbitration panel, and district court in a bench trial or to a jury. We handle injunction actions, mandamus, and have experience with class actions.
Mandamus is specified as a preferred remedy in connection with prompt payment disputes on public works projects. Also, mandamus is a common form of relief to compel the award of a public works contract to the low bidder or to recover prompt payment due on public work projects.
We handle a plethora of construction claims including liens and privileges on public and private works projects, prosecution or defense of claims for damages, construction defects, delays, disruptions, wrongful termination, lost profits, fraud, unfair and deceptive trade practices, action for nullity, as well as recovery of attorney’s fees, costs, interest, and penalties due by law incidental thereto.
